spamimage.jpg width=About two weeks ago we started receiveing a couple of complaints of false positives on sent or received e-mail , in the past I was always fast to jump the gun on a couple of complaints, only to find out the issue resided on a clients machine, this time I have taken a cautious stance on the minor e-mail issue, it appears that some changes have occured on our global spam filter.

I really had not realized how much illegitimate e-mail the mail server was actually blocking, until I removed the Spam filter for approximately 10 hours, me personally I received over 500 e-mails that where in fact Spam. At 10:00 am yesterday morning I reinstated the filter because of so many complaints on Spam , there does seem to be an issue with sending e-mail from some older machines, because of the way the mail server handles requests, and requires a legitimate hostname which we are currently trying to address and repair.

If we do not block and try to keep spam to a minimum, lagunanet servers also run the severe risk of being blocked, which has happened in the past, and it is very difficult plus very  time consuming getting  e-mail blocks removed, which is  the main reason for lagunanet to use   Spam filters.

In the meantime, please understand that the laguna.com.mx mail server is meant to serve folks requiring reliable e-mail, although many of you may use a third party server we can not guarantee that your e-mail will not be blocked, either by the parameters of your third party server, the laguna mail server or a combination of the two, what we do know is that if you use Lagunanet as it was meant to be used, which means  having a valid e-mail of example “user@laguna.com.mx” with the proper incoming and outgoing mail server, everything should work fine.

For those of you that are using a mail server other than laguna.com.mx , here are some alternatives or workarounds, you can ask your third party mail host to allow relaying trough their mail server, which not many are doing now days because of spam issues, the other would be to request a webmail account form your third party internet provider, or maybe opening up a  yahoo or gmail account, please remember  we are trying to provide good reliable e-mail to our end users and businesses and  with that, trying to ensure that our e-mail continues to be stable and for the most part spam free.

For those people using older machines with older mail clients we are working on a fix for those receiving false positives, in the meantime you may use our webmail which you can access here, mail.laguna.com.mx
