You will need to be connected to Lagunanet to connect to AOL through a regular internet connection. To do this, at the initial sign-on screen in AOL click on the Setup button. Then click on the Edit Location button, and on the new screen, under the Network section, click the down arrow and choose TCP/IP. Then if you have a active connection to Lagunanet, you can sign-on to AOL without the need to dial directly to them.
* Please note: signing onto AOL this way all of the time may be a consideration for you. If so, you may want to update your billing information through America Online, informing them that you will be accessing their network via TCP/IP. This will result in a less expensive monthly rate for your America Online account.
Dial-Up FAQs

What kind of modem should I buy? LagunaNet will support up to 33,600 Kbps we recommend as with anything else buying good components as conditions such as low voltage and poor line quality are an issue here in Mexico. At this time we only support 33,600 modem connections here in Ajijic due to the lack of the local telco's infrastructure.

Why do I sometimes get disconnected or kicked of the Internet ? A lot of factors can lead to getting disconnected or kicked off the Internet,  weather conditions poor phone wiring etc. We recommend having a quality modem installed. Most Pc's come installed with a inexpensive modem which works fine in the U.S or Canada but Mexico's phone infrastructure is not the greatest,  better quality modems offer better compression and hold up better under poor phone line conditions here in Mexico, so before coming down ask your local computer guru what is the best modem that can be purchased as it will be cheaper to buy up north.

Are there any other charges other than my monthly charge from Lagunanet ? The only other charges you may incur are those from the local phone company,  on a residential phone line you are allowed 100 phone calls
after you have reached your 100 calls the phone company charges you $1.45 pesos for each additional call over the 100.
